Myanmar military sues editor and reporter in Rakhine State

According to local reports, the Myanmar military has sued a reporter and an editor for the DMG media group, editor U Ne Win San and reporter Ma Hnin Nwe, in Rakhine State, under Article 66(d) of the Telecommunications Law. The pair were charged on 22 January, over a recent news report about an alleged looting by government troops of rice from a Kyauktaw Township village. A number of media organizations in Myamar released a statement on 25 January asking the military to submit a complaint with the Myanmar Press Council (MPC) before seeking remedy through the court system, media added.
