Ha Ji-hoon, one of Korea's most famous furniture designers, opened a solo show at Choeunsook Art & Lifestyle Gallery in Cheongdam-dong of Gangnam district, southern Seoul last week. In the exhibition, he presents new works including a dark green cabinet, which is on the floor in this photo. The form of the cabinet was inspired by the architecture of Jongmyo, the main shrine for deceased kings and queens of the Joseon dynasty (1392-1910). He also presents his well-known works including transparent poly carbonate soban, which are hanging on the wall in this photo. Soban refer to Korea's traditional small portable tables which are similar to trays. "I'm always fascinated and inspired by old Korean crafts and architecture," Ha said. "I also seek practical and environmentally-friendly materials; I prefer long-durable synthetic materials harmless to organisms to purely natural materials, whose collection might cause the destruction of the environment." The exhibition runs through Nov. 11.
