South Korea’s National Assembly on Thursday ratified the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), the world’s largest regional free trade agreement enabling tariff exemptions to 15 economies including 10 ASEAN countries and Australia, China, Japan, Korea, and New Zealand responsible for about 30% of global GDP. The agreement is expected to take effect in early February, 60 days after ratification as Korea had been among the slowest in ratifying the agreement signed a year ago. Ten other countries including China and Japan can enjoy duty exemptions from January as they have already ratified the pact.
